A great article in this weeks East Kent Mercury. With £212,000 raised by over 200 residents of Ash, we now only have £118,000 to reach our target to buy back the Chequers as a community hub. Thanks to Plunkett Foundation supporting our request of an additional £50,000 grant as well through their More Than A Pub programme. Our share scheme is now open again until the end of July as many people have since requested to invest.

MORE GOOD NEWS!!!!
Letter received from the Plunkett Foundation today :-
“I’m pleased to be able to confirm that, following the recent Loan and Grant panel, your application was successful and the panel have agreed a conditional offer for your group. ”
A grant of £50,000 has been granted subject to our completing the loan process for an additional £50,000.
This is a fabulous endorsement and welcome boost to all the local people who have supported and believe that this campaign can and will be successful.
We are reopening the share offer this week until the end of July to help us get the final amount needed as it was clear at the shareholders meeting last week that several people missed our last deadline. Please watch this space!!!

Thank you to all shareholders that attended our meeting on Monday. Due to some very generous additional share applications by our shareholders, we now raised an additional £60k in one week, and now have £208,150 in share applications!! Well done to all for a great effort by our village.
This means we have now gone over the threshold to allow us to get grants and loans from official organisations and we have well exceeded the total that the pub was bought by the developer.
Watch this space for some more news next week!!!

Hardback £25, softback £20 (plus £3 p&p). 288 pages, over 80 photographs and 5 maps.
Drinking in Deal draws on reports in Victorian and Edward newspapers and many other sources to discuss the role of pubs and beerhouses in Deal. It tells the story of the men and women who ran them, the boatmen and marines who used them, and the local disputes generated by the “drink question”. Developments in Deal are set in their wider county and national contexts.
“A well researched thoroughly annotated but far from dry exploration of the factors and decisions which determined pub life in this east Kent seaside town”. Journal of Kent History
